type i error
An error in research, where the analysis shows an effect or difference, when there is in reality, no effect or difference.

Type i error is a rejection of the see null hypothesis when the null hypothesis is actually true. This usually happens because the see data points have, by sheer chance, arranged themselves to create the illusion that there is an effect. Type i error is more likely in situations where there is high amounts of see error variance.
