If you are collecting data on blood pressure in the elderly, the variable that you are interested in is blood pressure. If you collect the blood pressure of a single person, the value that you get is a score. It is a single value of the variable you are interested in.

Data is made up of a collection of scores.

A composite score is a score that is created from adding or averaging several scores.
