One of the key attributes of any set of numbers is the central tendency of those numbers. The mode is the most common score. For instance, if you have the following set of scores: 1,2,2,3,3,3,3,4 the mode would be 3, because there are four instances of a score of three, more than any other score. Other common measures of central tendency are the average, (or mean), and the median. Mode is often used in combination with the mean, rather than as a replacement measure of central tendency. The mode is particularly useful for describing "bimodal" distributions: sets of scores or populations that have two peaks.
